科技部全球事務與科學發展中心採用訊連科技「U 會議」 透過視訊會議及遠距教學舉辦「全球青年線上暑期營」

科技部GASE中心，是科技部為建構高等教育和研究機構的生態系統，成立以國際事務為主之計畫單位。自去年起舉辦「全球青年暑期營」獲得廣大迴響。GASE中心遴選來自全球就讀學碩博士之優秀青年，結合在臺產官學界之實驗室及企業講師，促進臺灣學術界與國外大學及研究機構之交流和鏈結。今年適逢COVID-19疫情影響，首次改以線上形式舉辦之「全球青年線上暑期營」，選擇訊連科技「U會議」，作為活動開幕式、專題講座和跨海師生溝通之視訊會議及遠距教學平台，期間共舉辦超過50場、累計超過45小時之視訊會議。

「科技部全球事務與科學發展中心首次舉辦線上『全球青年暑期營』，透過與訊連科技『U會議』合作打造跨國視訊會議及遠距教學平台，活動順利圓滿落幕。」科技部全球事務與科學發展中心袁孝維主任表示：「今年受疫情影響將活動轉以線上舉辦，獲得專任講師和全球學員之支持肯定。GASE中心透過此次線上活動之舉辦，將雲端溝通應用於推動產學合作，加速臺灣邁向國際與數位轉型的腳步。」

「COVID-19疫情對全球造成巨大影響，教育機構及學術單位之跨國交流受到諸多限制，而視訊會議可突破疫情限制，可應用在各級單位之交流、討論、遠距教學等活動。」訊連科技執行長黃肇雄表示：「訊連科技與GASE中心長期合作，很榮幸此次能透過『U會議』，協助GASE中心舉辦之『全球青年線上暑期營』以進行跨國的學術交流及遠距教學。」

訊連科技「U會議」專為政府機關、公家單位、教育機構和企業之打造的視訊會議工具，可支援Windows、MacOS、iOS及Android跨平台設備，和透過Chrome瀏覽器無須安裝軟體即可加入。U會議可呈現12個與會者視訊畫面，並提供桌面分享、共享白板與雷射筆等多種互動工具。於「全球青年線上暑期營」中， GASE中心邀請之專任講師和學員透過「U會議」進行跨國的討論及互動。並透過「U會議」之錄影功能進行課程存檔，方便未參加現場討論之師生回放觀看。

ESET R&D to launch Cyber Security Academy with the European Migration Agency and the Technical University of Moldova

Bratislava, Iasi – The ESET R&D center in Iasi, Romania, is working with the European Migration Agency (EMA) and the Technical University of Moldova (TUM) in the capital, Chisinau, to launch a new Cyber Security Academy.  The project is currently slated to last for one year (starting in August 2020), after which the most successful graduating students will be offered professional internships at ESET. Another area of the new program’s focus is on talented young women and their futures in information technology.

The European Migration Agency, in cooperation with ESET and the Technical University of Moldova, will renovate and equip a new IT Laboratory, which will subsequently serve as the basis for the new Cyber Security Academy. TUM ranks among the country’s leading universities in terms of cooperation with the private sector.

Along with the creation of the Academy, the project also aims to focus on young women in IT. ESET is co-financing the project with a local Moldovan NGO TEKEDU. The GirlsGoIT program and TEKEDU will support the transition of young women into the ICT sector and organize workshops in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The whole project is co-financed via official development aid by the Slovak Republic, SlovakAid.

“Iasi, where this ESET R&D center is located, used to be for 300 years the historical capital of Moldova and later of Romania; thus, we could not be at a more symbolic nor closer place for both countries. We are very much looking forward to supporting the young IT & cybersec talent from Moldova as part of the freshly launched Academy project, and are looking forward to working with and helping them as professional interns at ESET,” says Andrei Ciubotaru, Managing Director of the Iasi R&D center and Head of Endpoint Security at ESET. “Moreover, we are happy to financially support part of the project focusing on encouraging young and talented women to consider the IT sector as their future workplace,” he adds.

According to EMA, “The main challenge the sector is facing is the lack of skilled workforce, which is compounded by a massive brain drain from Moldova. This creates the opportunity to attract more women into the Moldovan Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector, as their representation remains relatively low.” Moreover, the Moldovan ICT sector also faces the challenge of ensuring interconnection of national educational processes with the corporate sector, in order to align with the ever-changing requirements of the labor market.”

TÜV Rheinland conducts social audits based on Sedex Virtual Assessment

As one of few companies, TÜV Rheinland has received approval from Sedex to conduct social audits based on the Sedex Virtual Assessment. The assessments can be used internationally and are applicable to companies in a wide range of industries. TÜV Rheinland is an accredited member of the Sedex Company and fulfils the technical requirements to conduct remote audits at Sedex members and their suppliers. With the help of these virtual audits it is checked whether companies comply with social and ethical aspects. The aim is to provide more transparency and security along national and international supply chains during difficult times of the coronavirus pandemic.

Virtual audits: maintaining standards in supply chains during coronavirus pandemic

Sedex Virtual Assessment is based on the SMETA catalogue and deals with criteria such as working conditions, occupational safety and hygiene and environmental management. In times of the coronavirus it is sometimes impossible to physically visit locations in order to carry out the required on-site audits. The Sedex Virtual Assessment offers a possibility to check social and ethical aspects in companies and suppliers locations via remote audit if SMETA audits cannot be carried out. “TÜV Rheinland is one of only a few companies to be approved to conduct Sedex Virtual Assessments. Especially under the current corona conditions, these innovative remote audits provide the necessary continuity to maintain and optimize social and ethical principles in companies and their supplier companies,” explains Frank Dorssers, Vice President Systems at TÜV Rheinland. As an international provider of testing services TÜV Rheinland carried out more than 1,200 SMETA audits worldwide in 2019.

Extensive experience of TÜV Rheinland

Within the Sedex Virtual Assessments, qualified TÜV Rheinland teams carry out the audits with the help of video technologies. The procedure runs in several phases. First, TÜV Rheinland checks to what extent a location is suitable for the remote audit. This check is based on various criteria defined by Sedex. The remote audit is planned after all required parameters are fulfilled. TÜV Rheinland auditors then take a virtual tour of the company using video technology and examine the site, the management system and the corresponding documentation. “As TÜV Rheinland is already a long-standing Sedex member and has an international team of experienced social auditors, I am sure that we will conduct the virtual assessments timely and professionally,” says Frank Dorssers.

After completion of the Sedex Virtual Assessment, companies receive a report which is uploaded to the Sedex platform. With the report, companies emphasize that corporate social responsibility is important to them and that they invest in social and ethical standards especially amid COVID 19.
