Enhancements

  • Added server log messages to Comet Server startup to indicate when certain subprocesses have finished initializing
  • Added a S3-compatible (Object Lock) storage vault template type
  • Improved Microsoft 365 incremental backups of SharePoint Sites and OneDrive to be more efficient and quicker

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue causing the Comet Backup desktop app to enable Object Lock on a Storage Vault when Object Lock was not enabled
  • Fixed an issue with “unknown header” messages when connecting to a Storage Vault that has multiple files in the keys subdirectory
  • Fixed an issue causing some reporting filters to consistently use the first option instead of the selected option
  • Fixed an issue with the Recent Activity Email so it now correctly counts jobs which span multiple days
  • Fixed an issue with the Recent Activity Email so it now matches the same period as the Recent Activity Report in the Comet Server web interface
  • Fixed an issue with remote software updates for Windows clients
  • Fixed an issue with the Linux deb package not being present when listing the available software downloads via the API

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue with listing Sharepoint sites that can occasionally overload a SharePoint server
  • Fixed an issue with the Comet Server web interface Server menu / navigation section being absent immediately following login when the Software Build Role is disabled
  • Fixed an issue with symlinks failing to restore correctly from Disk Image backups, causing the restore job to fail
  • Fixed an issue with relative symlinks being restored as links into the Comet Backup desktop app’s installation directory
  • Fixed an issue with VMware backup attempting to back up PSF files. PSF files for vSphere Replication will now be ignored
  • Fixed an issue with VMware backup where quiesce snapshots create two files instead of one
  • Fixed an issue with VMware backup when a virtual machine directory is located more than a level deep from the datastore root
  • Fixed an issue with an incorrect check of allocated areas during VMware vSphere backup
  • Fixed an issue with the policy option “Always require password to open the application interface” not working when enabled

Enhancements

  • Improved the performance of S3-compatible Storage Vaults when Object Lock is enabled
  • Improved the performance of simulated restores for most Protected Item types
  • Added a Job History tab to the User details page which shows jobs for the selected user in the Comet Server web interface

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue preventing one or more files from being selected for restore when a partition of a virtual disk is selected in the granular restore workflow
  • Fixed a crash caused by an out-of-bounds access when using granular restore from a Hyper-V Protected Item
  • Fixed an issue with the Comet Server web interface where schedule options would overlap in certain languages
  • Fixed an issue with extra fields appearing when editing a Storage Template created prior to 23.12.5 in the Comet Server web interface
  • Fixed an issue with missing validation for Storage Template settings using the Custom Remote Bucket type
  • Fixed a cosmetic issue with not resetting the Test Connections button state when switching Storage Template types in the Comet Server web interface
  • Fixed a cosmetic issue with showing an unusable Test Connections button for Storage Template settings using the Custom Remote Bucket type
  • Fixed an issue with unexpected “incomplete data” log messages when restoring large files to certain locations

January 2024: What’s New?

“What’s New?” is a series of blog posts covering recent changes to Comet in more detail. This article covers the latest changes in Comet Voyager between December 2023 and January 2024.

There were nine Comet software releases between December 2023 and January 2024 – five in our 23.12.x Voyager release series and four point releases for our 23.12.x Saturn quarterly series.

Over the past nine releases we have released close to 20 bug fixes based on your feedback and our own internal quality standards. We are proud of the hard work the team has put in to make our latest versions of Saturn and Voyager our best releases yet.

Easier user creation in the Comet Server web interface

We’ve enhanced the way admins can create new users from the Comet Server web interface by allowing users to be created in any tenant. Previously this functionality was only available using the Comet Server API so it is great to be able to provide this functionality for all users.

It is also easier to add multiple users at once in the Comet Server as we’ve made the add multiple users workflow always visible. Previously this was hidden behind our advanced options settings system which made it harder to discover.

Tenant Visibility on the Users Page

On Comet Servers with more than one tenant configured, it was hard to see what user belonged to what tenant from the Users page. You could see that the user belonged to a tenant, but you could not tell which one.

Now on the users page you can see what tenant a user belongs to right from the page. This is a massive quality of life improvement for admin users.

Along with this improvement we have also made it possible to search for users by tenant name.

VMware Improvements

In November we launched our VMware Protected Item and over the past two months we’ve been hard at work to improve it based on your feedback, including improved performance, compatibility, and correctness.

The latest versions of Saturn and Voyager are up to date with our latest improvements and we’ve seen great uptake of the new feature.

Java SDK

You can now natively integrate with a Comet Server from a Java application with our new SDK. You can check it out at our public GitHub here.
