Telemetry\u00a0is the automatic process of both collecting data from remote sources and transmitting it to a central system, where the\u00a0data is analyzed and monitored<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The term telemetry comes from the French word \u201ct\u00e9l\u00e9m\u00e8tre,\u201d which is composed of \u201ct\u00e9l\u00e9,\u201d meaning \u201cdistant,\u201d and \u201cm\u00e8tre,\u201d meaning \u201cmeter\u201d or \u201cmeasuring device.\u201d It traces its roots to the Greek words \u201ctele\u201d (remote) and \u201cmetron\u201d (measure).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We can trace the origins of early telemetric devices to 1763 with mercury pressure gauges and the Morse telegraph in the 1800s. In 1912, telemetry was used to monitor power plants. After World War II, it became widely available and evolved significantly during the Cold War.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
